Personal Recollections of
Stan K. Brock
Crew Chief, Lonesome 'Lil
Arlington, Texas
I came to Kimpo in the early part of January of 1953 and left in November of 1953. So I was there through part of the hot war and then after they signed the truce. I was an Airman 1st Class. All the time I was at Kimpo, I was Crew Chief for a WB-26C, tail number 242. I named the plane Lonesome 'Lil after my wife who was back in the United States. You know, 242, that was considered to be a famous airplane.
Well, the pilots just liked the airplane, anyway, the way it flew and all. Some planes are like that, they just fly real well. At last year's reunion, some of the pilots were talking about 242 and how that was really their favorite airplane to fly. They all agreed that it was the best maintained in the squadron. So, why'd they wait 42 years to tell me that?
